Our average cost to develop a single client/dog team in 2009 was $28,000. While this is a lot of money, we’re very efficient in the use of your funds compared with other organizations providing similar services. In fact, training a guide dog for a person who is blind costs $100,000 at the largest school in the United States.
According to Can Do Canines’ 2009 independent financial audit, 82% of our contributed funds are spent on program-related benefits, while only 18% goes to administrative and fundraising costs. A full copy of the 2009 financial report is furnished upon request by contacting our Development Director, Janet Cobus, at 763-331-3000 – ext 153.
Can Do Canines serves people with many kinds of disability. By helping restore their independence, freedom and peace of mind, our work impacts their families and communities. We also serve the cause of animal welfare by adopting and training—whenever possible—homeless dogs from local animal shelters.
